2010 Preakness Winner
The second leg of the Triple Crown took place on May Saturday 15th, in Maryland. Unfortunately the winner of the Preakness Stakes was not the winner of the Kentucky Derby (Super Saver/Calvin Borel) so there wasn't Triple Crown 2010. The winner of the 2010 Preakness Stakes, also known as the run for the black eyed Susans, was Lookin for Lucky. This horse was favored in the Kentucky Derby, but did not win.
In both the Kentucky and Santa Anita Derby, Lookin at Lucky lost all chance at victory after getting roughed up and steadied, prompting Baffert, who has won with over 30% of his starters with Garcia aboard, to switch riders in hopes of changing his fortunes. After jockey Garret Gomez rode Lucky in his first nine career starts, Garcia, who had frequently excercised the horse in the mornings, took over 2010 Preakness.

Lookin At Lucky went off at 2-1 and paid $6.80 to win. The winning time was 1:55.47 |

2009 Preakness Winner
Rachel Alexandra became the first filly in 85 years (since Nellie Morse in 1924) to win the Preakness Stakes
Rachel Alexandra led by a head at the quarter and half-mile poles. She stretched it to a half-length at the three-quarters pole. She was ahead by four lengths going down the stretch. In the end, the 9-5 favorite won by a length in her first race against the boys.
Rachel Alexandra had already beaten up on her own gender, winning her five previous races by a combined 43 1/2 lengths. |
1ST 13 Rachel Alexandra $5.60 $4.60 $3.60

2008 Preakness Winner
Big Brown charged to the lead turning for home and then
cruised down the stretch to
win the Preakness on Saturday, still perfect and
squarely pointed toward thoroughbred
racing's first Triple Crown in 30 years.
Just as he did two weeks ago in a Kentucky Derby
marred by the breakdown of Eight Belles, the colt
named for UPS delivered another stunning win, this
time by 5 1/4 lengths. Macho Again was second and
Icabad Crane was third.
The Belmont Stakes will be run June 7. It's been
three decades since Affirmed swept that race along
with the Derby and Preakness to give racing its 11th
Triple Crown winner. |
Big Brown: $2.40,
$2.60 and $2.40. Macho Again: $17.20 and
$10.40, Icabad Crane: $5.60 to Show.

2007 Preakness Stakes Winner
Curlin heads back to the barn with his flowers and Preakness winner's blanket.
Curlin dug in late to poke his head in front at the line to get the victory in 1:53.46, tying the stakes record. It was a long 4 lengths back to the tiring Hard Spun in third, and 25-1 C P West was fourth. Circular Quay was fifth. |
